Welcome to the Deggendorf Area!

The Deggendorf Area varies in height from 200 to 1,150 metres and therefore offers an impressive range of landscapes, from the foothills of the Bavarian Forest via the unique Danube landscape with the estuary of the Ilz, to the rich colours of the Danube plain.

View of the town Deggendorf and the river Danube

The Deggendorf area is very lively, the home of people who respect tradition but are also open to the future. You will find the most modern leisure facilities here as well as a wide range of cultural activities. Visit our world famous monasteries, the basilica at Kloster Niederaltaich and the Asam basilica near Osterhofen – the only church in the world where the 2 great artists of their time, Asam and Fischer, worked together. And everyone will be enchanted by the still groups of old farm buildings still inhabited in the area.

We also offer ideal conditions for cyclists and walkers. A visit to the Information Centre at the Isar estuary at Moos is a must: here you will find out everything about the estuary area and experience at first hand the plant, animal and bird life here. All this and more awaits you in the Deggendorf area – on the sunny side of the Bavarian Forest!
