The district Regen in the Nature Park Bavarian Forest
They are all called Regen: the river, the county – which we are presenting here – and its capital. Although Regen means rain, that does not mean that it rains more here than anywhere else.
The ArberLand (County of Regen) lies in the middle of the Nature Park and at the edge of the National Park of the Bavarian Forest. With 63% of its surface area covered by trees, it is the most densely wooded county in Germany. Endlees forests, impressive forests like the Arber and Rachel, across which wisps of mist float in the twilight, this is where you will find untouched nature with clear streams and mountain lakes, remote forest tracks and well marked footpaths.
The Regen Valley Cycle Route, the "Bikepark Geißkopf" in Bischofsmais and the Zeller Valley Cycle Route amongst many others provide perfect facilities for cyclists.
The "Glass Road" doesn’t just run through the county. It also contains some of the its important locations at Arnbruck, Bodenmais, Zwiesel and Frauenau, amongst others, providing some of the most unique experiences of the world of glass. A visit to this area is not just appealing for nature and glass enthusiasts but also for those interested in art, who will make some surprising discoveries. There is much to see and experience in museums, for example in the Glasmuseum in Frauenau, in galeries, in castles and even underground.
The area also offers perfect conditions for winter sports, as it includes the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest, the internationally famous Arber. The Cross Country Ski Centre Bretterschachten operates well into the Spring. Children are also well catered for, with a wide range of approved activities in the villages and hotels and the Regen County Children’s Office.
